Jumbo’s chance to shine
With less than a month to go until the spectacular Colchester City Carnival, organisers have announced part of the procession will parade past the historic Jumbo water tower.
A dazzling 45 communities representing 25 nationalities will take part in the carnival and a fair on Saturday, July 13.
Major (Retd) Udaibahadur Gurung MBE, Director of Colchester City Carnival and Chair of Colchester Diverse Communities Network said:
“The carnival’s theme this year is Together We Shine. We are looking forward to a colourful procession showcasing the unique cultures and talents within our community.”
“We wanted to include Jumbo in the route to highlight The Jumbo Project to save the water tower and bring it back into sustainable use. This is an exciting first for the Carnival and we hope people will be outside The Mercury Theatre to support us and show their love for Jumbo which means so much to everyone.”
“The procession will start from Circular Road North and the first five communities will march along Head Street before turning onto Church Street and passing Jumbo, our Colchester City icon. The procession will then rejoin the rest of the participants and floats for the parade along High Street to Firstsite and The Minories.”
The Carnival Fair at Firstsite will feature more than 70 stalls, family friendly activities and non-stop music and dance from every continent.
