Not Jingle Bells, Jingle Bricks!
This festive season we are offering the chance to buy a unique gifts, sponsorship of one of Jumbo’s 1.2 million Victorian bricks.
The Jingle Bricks! appeal from North Essex Heritage is part of its wider Love Jumbo fundraising effort to top-up grant funding for the heritage asset.
For £5, supporters can sponsor a brick, give a gift that stands the test of time and be part of Jumbo’s history. Everyone taking part in the festive fundraiser will get a digital certificate.
The first 2,000 bricks will be worth £10 per brick to The Jumbo Project, thanks to the kind donation of a benefactor.
With most of the project cost already secured through heritage and community grants, this is the public’s first chance to play their part in fundraising.
Leila Kleineidam, Trustee of North Essex Heritage, said:
“Our fabulous tour guides have taken thousands of visitors on paid tours of Jumbo, and we are grateful to everyone who has already helped us and shown they Love Jumbo.
“We have had so many people ask to sponsor a brick and we think Christmas is the perfect time to launch Jingle Bricks! What could be better than to give a sustainable, timeless and local gift that lasts beyond the festive season?”
Alongside bricks, individuals and businesses will next year be able to sponsor other parts of Jumbo, including the dramatic and historic cast iron water tank panels, the planned windows in the tank, the huge water pipes and the iconic red railings. Everyone will also be encouraged to come up with their own unique fundraising ideas.
“Jumbo isn’t just brick and ironwork,” Ms Kleineidam added, “it’s memory, identity, and community. By supporting Jingle Bricks! and Love Jumbo, you’re helping shape a story that will echo through future Christmases; it will be a story you helped to build.”
