Can you help the Jumbo project charity?

The charity working on the restoration and renaissance of Colchester’s historic Jumbo water tower is recruiting additional Trustees to help with its work.

North Essex Heritage hopes to attract up to four additional people to its Board. The charity has leased the much-loved disused Victorian Balkerne Water Tower, affectionately known as Jumbo, for 150 years. It plans to convert the tower, which is of national heritage importance, into a destination venue, restaurant, visitor experience and historical interpretation space for everyone to enjoy. The Victorian masterpiece has been on the Buildings at Risk register for many years and is Grade II* listed.

Simon Hall MBE DL, Chair of North Essex Heritage, said:

“We are committed to community-led preservation and regeneration of buildings across North East Essex.”

“We have a strong Board of Trustees but lack some skills we need both for the Jumbo Project and our other work. We would also like the Board to better reflect the communities in which we operate and particularly welcome applicants from Black, Asian and ethnic minorities, people under 30 years of age, or who are LGBGTQ+, disabled or have other protected characteristics.”

Applicants are invited to email Simon Hall at simonhall026@gmail.com explaining why they would like to join the Board, giving details of their background, interests and skills.
